When we shipped 0.4.0-beta, the core value of Open J Proxy was already clear: a database control plane for Java applications that lets you scale dozens of application instances without overwhelming your database, because the server — not the application — owns and controls the real connection pools. What 0.5.0-beta adds on top of that foundation is two features that take the pressure off the database even further. The first is query result caching: the ability to answer repeated SELECT queries directly from memory without touching the database at all. The second is read/write splitting: the ability to automatically route reads to replica databases and leave the primary free for writes. Together, they advance OJP’s role as a full database control plane — governing not just connections but query results, routing decisions, and admission under load.

Always Up to Date - with Every New Free PDF Edition!

Don’t Want to Miss a Thing?
The conference opens its doors today in Cologne, once again bringing together the international Java community.
Focus on AI: Highlights on Wednesday

A special focus is placed on AI on Wednesday, April 22. The day begins with a high-level keynote:

Take Control of GenAI — Without Compromising Your Data

Most GenAI demos look impressive — until data protection becomes a blocker.

Suddenly, you’re dealing with external APIs, unclear data flows, and compliance risks that slow everything down or stop projects entirely.

But what if you could build GenAI systems without any of that?

In this hands-on JCON EUROPE 2026 workshop, “Building Secure, Self-Hosted RAG Systems in Java”, you’ll explore how a fully local, self-hosted RAG system can be implemented — using Java and technologies you fully control.

A Big Screen Experience for Java Developers & Architects

JCON EUROPE 2026 | April 20–23, 2026 | Cinedom Cologne

Anyone talking about modern software development today can hardly avoid Java. Few technologies have shaped the enterprise world as sustainably, and few communities are as vibrant, diverse, and innovation-driven. This is exactly where JCON comes in: as a meeting point, a platform, and an experiential space for developers from all over the world. With participants from more than 70 countries, JCON has long since become an international gathering. Openness, knowledge sharing, and a strong sense of community remain at its core.

Caching and Beyond: Smarter Data Processing with Java - in 2 Hours

Many Java teams start simple — a single database, a straightforward architecture. But as systems evolve, so does the stack: caching layers to improve performance, search engines for faster queries, additional databases for specialized use cases, and now vector stores for AI-driven features.

What begins as optimization often turns into a fragmented landscape of technologies. The result: increasing complexity, higher infrastructure costs, and growing DevOps overhead.

The session “Caching and Beyond – Smarter Data Processing with Java” at JCON EUROPE takes a different approach. Instead of adding more tools, it focuses on simplifying data architectures — using a clean, Java-centric model built on open-source technologies.

Free Java Training Videos Now Available: From Fundamentals to Modern Frameworks

A comprehensive collection of Java training videos is now publicly available, offering developers valuable insights into modern backend technologies and frameworks.

Instead of a fixed schedule, the individual design of one’s own conference experience takes center stage.

With a wide range of sessions, formats, and networking opportunities, visitors can decide for themselves which content, conversations, and contacts they want to focus on.

The central foundation for this is the JCON Schedule: participants can create their personal agenda, bookmark relevant sessions, and organize targeted 1:1 meetings with speakers or exhibitors. This turns the conference into something that is not just consumed, but actively shaped—depending on individual interests, projects, and professional priorities.

The Inconvenient Truth About Code, 30 Years of Java & Sovereign AI – The Keynotes of #JCON2026

4 Days | 100+ Speakers | 100+ Sessions | In-Person

Every few releases a project crosses a threshold where the changes stop being incremental and start reshaping how the system can be used.
Open J Proxy 0.4.0-beta is one of those releases.

With this version, EclipseStore has integrated the high-performance vector similarity search engine JVector and therefore becomes an embedded Java vector database engine that runs within the same JVM process as your GenAI app. With EclipseStore 4, Java developers can now build powerful GenAI apps with pure Java, without the need to use external vector databases. This makes the entire development process of GenAI apps very convenient and significantly faster, simplifying testing and deployment.

Free Tickets for JCON EUROPE 2026

4 Days | 100+ Speaker | 100+ Sessions | In-Person

The Open J Proxy (OJP) project has been busy—very busy. How busy? Try more than a hundred files changed, thousands of lines of code, and enough new distributed-systems machinery to make even seasoned architects clutch their coffee mugs in awe. If the previous v0.2.0-beta release was OJP discovering its superpowers, then v0.3.0-beta is OJP joining the Avengers.

In this article, we’ll walk through the most important enhancements, explain what they mean for Java developers, and crack a few jokes along the way (strictly at the expense of flaky servers).

Always Up to Date - with Every New Free PDF Edition!

Have You Enjoyed the Previous Part of Our Special Edition ‘Java 25’?
By automatically performing configurable actions on file save—such as optimizing imports, reformatting code, rearranging members, or applying small quick fixes—the plugin helps ensure that projects stay uniform across entire teams.

After the original development of “Save Actions” came to a halt several years ago, the plugin risked falling out of compatibility with newer IntelliJ versions. To prevent this, XDEV Software stepped in as the dedicated maintainer and continues to provide updates and maintenance releases through the JetBrains Marketplace. The goal has remained simple: to keep the plugin functional, compatible, and stable for the growing developer community that relies on it.

JAVAPRO Magazine JCON & Java 26 Special Edition - Call for Papers

CfP is Open until: November 28, 2025 | Deadline for article submission: January 16, 2026 | Publishing: in April \

Every Java developer has fought the same battle at some point — an app scaling beautifully on the application side, only to hit a wall when the database can’t keep up. Connection storms, resource starvation, slow queries hogging pools, unresponsive services.
We’ve all been there.

Open J Proxy (OJP) was born to solve exactly that.

Stay Updated with Every New Free PDF Edition!

Want to make sure you always receive the latest JAVAPRO magazine?
The moment for enterprise-grade Generative AI in Java has arrived — and you have the advantage! Almost all major enterprise systems, and the mountains of proprietary data they hold, are built on Java. That makes Java the perfect foundation for high-impact AI projects — but only if you know how to build them right.

JCON GenAI is your high-octane, single-day hands-on workshop series, designed to get you out of theory and into production-ready code. Its primary focus lies on simplicity, maintainability, and seamless integration with Testcontainers.

The MockServer concept allows developers to mock HTTP and HTTPS requests in order to simulate APIs for testing purposes. By setting expectations for incoming requests and defining responses, it creates controlled environments for integration testing. This isolates the system under test from real external dependencies, leading to predictable and repeatable results.

Call for Papers for JCON EUROPE 2026 Extended Until October 24

The Call for Papers (CFP) for JCON EUROPE 2026 has been extended by two weeks.
Dublin — Today marks a milestone for Java developers everywhere: the first beta release of Open J Proxy (OJP), version 0.1.1-beta, is live.
🚦 Chapter 1: The Seed of a Problem

The idea behind Open J Proxy (OJP) started growing in my mind way back in 2018 or 2019, during my time at a large credit card provider corporation. We were gearing up for a big shift: transitioning systems into microservices. Exciting stuff—but as we all know, excitement often walks hand-in-hand with complexity.

Always Up to Date - with Every New Free PDF Edition!

Did You Love Part 1 of Our “30 Years of Java” Special Issue?

Modern applications increasingly demand low-latency access to complex data. While relational databases remain an indispensable component of most systems, they often struggle to keep up with these performance requirements.

Eclipse Data Grid addresses this challenge with a powerful, distributed in-memory data layer designed specifically for Java developers. Rather than serving merely as a cache, Eclipse Data Grid combines high-speed storage, indexing, querying, and transactional persistence—providing a seamless bridge between fast in-memory operations and durable storage.
